West Bengal SLST Notification 2025 Summary:

West Bengal State Level Selection Test (2nd SLST) will be held after almost 10 years for the selection of candidates for the posts of Assistant Teachers in Government Aided/Sponsored Secondary/Higher Secondary Schools. The entire responsibility of conducting the selection test for the posts of 35726 Assistant Teachers for various subjects is vested on the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC).

WBSSC Syllabus 2025 and Exam Pattern:

The West Bengal Central School Service Commission (WBSSC) has officially released the notification for the second State Level Selection Test (SLST) for the recruitment of Assistant Teachers of Class IX-X (Secondary) and Class XI-XII (Higher Secondary) for the year 2025. This much-awaited recruitment drive includes new guidelines, detailed selection procedure and significant number of vacancies, which are governed by the “West Bengal School Service Commission (Selection for the recruitment of Assistant Teachers of Upper Primary Level Classes (excluding Work Education and Physical Education), (Class IX-X and Class XI-XII) Rules, 2025” (hereinafter referred to as “Rules, 2025”). West Bengal teacher candidates should follow the official notification before filling the application form.

This recruitment is being conducted following the judgments and orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court and is dependent on the outcome of the pending review petitions of the State and the Commission.

The subject-wise vacancies for Secondary and Higher Secondary have been shared at the official website www.westbengalssc.com. In total 35726 vacancies are officially announced out of which 23212 are for Assistant Teachers (IX-X), and the remaining 12514 are for Higher Secondary (XI-XII).

WB SLST 2025 Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates who are willing to apply for Assistant Teachers for Secondary Classes IX & X and Higher Secondary Classes XI & XII must be aware of the education qualification required and age criteria to be fulfilled.

Education Qualification:

Assistant Teachers for IX & X Classes:

  • a) Graduation / Post Graduation completed from a recognised University with at least 50% marks in either Graduation or Post Graduation (or its equivalent) and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed..) from a National Council for Teacher Education recognised institution, OR
  • (b) 4th year degree of B.A. Ed/B.Sc. Ed. from any National Council for Teacher Education recognised institution.

Assistant Teachers for XI & XII Classes:

  • (a) Candidates must have completed their post-graduation with at least 50% marks (or its equivalent) from a recognised University and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from a National Council for Teacher Education recognised institution; OR
  • (b) Candidates must have completed their post-graduation with at least 50% marks (or its equivalent) from a recognised University and B.A. Ed/ B.Sc. Ed. from any NCTE recognised institution.

WBSSC SLST Online Form 2025:

A candidate willing to apply for Assistant Teacher in classes IX & X and Classes XI & XII must have to submit their applications online at the official website of West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC). The dates for registering for WB SLST 2025 Exam has been scheduled from 16th June 2025 (5 pm) to 14th July 2025 (5 pm).

Application Process:

Mode of Application: Applications must be submitted online only through the official website (http://www.westbengalssc.com) of WBSSC. No other mode will be accepted.

WBSSC SLST Application Fee 2025

Candidates have to pay the application fees for the examination (excluding Bank/Other payment-related charges, where applicable). The fee for General & OBC candidates is Rs. 500, and for SC/ST/PH candidates is Rs. 200. Pay the fee online via debit card, credit card, net banking, UPI, or e-challan.

Important Instructions for Applicants:

  • Candidates should be filling the application form very carefully. No further rectification will be allowed after the final online submission.
  • Candidate should be entering your Name, ‘Father’s/ Mother’s name’, and ‘Date of Birth’ as per Madhyamik or equivalent certificate.

Selection Process and Exam Pattern (as per “Rules, 2025”):

The selection process for Assistant Teachers (Classes IX-X and XI-XII) will comprise the following stages:

  • Written Examination (OMR-based)
  • Academic Qualifications (Evaluation of educational scores)
  • Prior Teaching Experience
  • Oral Interview
  • Lecture Demonstration
  • Appearance before the Interview Board (for Oral Interview and Lecture Demonstration) is compulsory.

A. Marks Distribution for Assistant Teacher (Classes IX-X) – Total 100 Marks:

Written Examination (OMR): 60 Marks
Academics (Educational Qualification): 10 Marks (Based on Graduation or PG marks in the applied subject, whichever is higher. 60% & above: 10; Below 60%-50%: 8; Below 50%: 6. No rounding off)
Prior Teaching Experience: 10 Marks (At secondary level in Govt./Govt. aided/sponsored school. 2 marks per year of substantive service)
Oral Interview: 10 Marks
Lecture Demonstration: 10 Marks

B. Marks Distribution for Assistant Teacher (Classes XI-XII) – Total 100 Marks:

Written Examination (OMR): 60 Marks

C. OMR Based Written Test Details:

Candidates will retain a duplicate copy of their OMR Sheet.
Preliminary model answer keys will be published online, and objections (supported by authentic academic publications) can be submitted within 5 days.

A subject-wise Expert Committee will review objections, and their decision is final.
The final model answer key will be uploaded before OMR evaluation.
Candidates may be allowed to view an image of their own OMR sheet online on payment of a fee.
Question papers will be set in English and Bengali. Language papers will be in the respective language. The Sanskrit paper will be in Bengali.

Note on Upper Primary Selection (as per “Rules, 2025” – Not for this current SLST AT 2025):

The “Rules, 2025” also outline the selection process for Assistant Teachers for Upper Primary Level (except Work Education and Physical Education).
This involves: Academic Score (10 marks),
TET Weightage (40 marks),
Written Exam (OMR – 25 marks),
Oral Interview (15 marks),
Lecture Demonstration (5 marks), and
Prior Teaching Experience (5 marks).
This is for informational purposes, as the current advertisement (2nd SLST AT 2025) is only for Classes IX-X and XI-XII.

Syllabus:

Panel Preparation and Validity:

Final Panels (equal to vacancies) and Waiting Lists will be published category-wise.
